As American City Girls, we do lots of things! But the main thing we’re up to is about Living Locally. Social technology, parties, blogs, salons, events and our business operations are just part of how we live locally. Here’s a peek at what we do and how you might want to join us in Living Locally.
Living Locally: 5 Principles
In support of the vision of Living Locally-2008, we’ve identified five beginning principles with which we’re aligned and taking action.
1. Expanding local relationships through social technology.
2. Choosing civility.
3. Making a living locally.
4. Transferring knowledge.
5. Being resilient.
Expanding local relationships with social technology.
Facebook.com is today’s most promising social technology tool for connecting (and reconnecting) neighbors and friends. We heartily recommend that you create a Facebook account today. For an easy introduction to Facebook, go to our Squidoo lens. Then play around. Have fun. And start to get a sense of the potential this tool has for helping us all in Living Locally. We also recommend, particularly if you live in Howard County, that you create a free Socializr profile. There’s much more information available to you when you create a profile. Click “Sign up” in the upper right corner to start.
Connect. Converse. Collaborate.
We host parties. We host salons. We host a weekly lunch-time gathering at a local cafe. Now, as much as we love social technology and online connections, without the face-to-face connections, the internet is a flat; and without online connections, face-to-face connections can be difficult to maintain. We also blog. Hometown Columbia, HocoLoco Girl, Shiny Bits, and City Girls Choose Civility are just some of the places you’ll find us. Join us in the blogosphere … and contribute your thinking to the conversation about Living Locally.
The Ladies
We also make and sell lovely note cards. You know, getting a beautiful art card in the mail has a big impact in today’s digital communication age. Nothing says, “our relationship means something special’ to me like receiving a hand-written note from friend. We’ve packaged our American City Girls Ladies in gift collections that also make a statement: Grace, Innocence, Confidence, Charm and Sass. Celebrate your connection with other friends by sending them signature cards from our HocoLocal Lady party. Available for purchase online or at our parties.
