We like guys. And there are some guys we really like. Here’s a quick introduction to some of the Guys “The Girls” Like, and why we like them.

Philip J. Merril, of Local Cafés.

The Girls like Philip. He is social, friendly and always open to learning more. Philip knows exactly at what table we like to sit when we work at Borders in Columbia, as we do in the evenings here and there. On a packed night at Borders, with not a table to be found, he waited for “our” table to open, marked it (saved it) for us, then zipped through the store to find us so we could work in comfort. The Girls like that: A guy who knows what we like and makes sure we get it!

Bob Moon, Hobbits Glen.

The Girls like Bob. He is dedicated, loyal and committed. And he frequently buys American City Girls notecard collections from us. Bob’s support helps us pay for the many parties we host. It seems Bob is liked by a number of us throughout the community; he gets invited to many of the HocoLocal Lady parties we host.

The Girls like Frank. He is smart, logical, funny and always willing to help us, especially when we need geek help with our blogs, domains and such. Facebook.com is today’s most promising social technology tool for connecting (and reconnecting) neighbors and friends. We heartily recommend that you create a Facebook account today. For an easy introduction to Facebook, go to our Squidoo lens. Then play around. Have fun. And start to get a sense of the potential this tool has for helping us all in Living Locally. We host parties. We host salons. We host a weekly lunch-time gathering at a local cafe. Now, as much as we love social technology and online connections, without the face-to-face connections, the internet is a flat; and without online connections, face-to-face connections can be difficult to maintain. Heather is relatively new to Howard County and like many of us is still working on carving out a lifestyle that is as much about her family as it about participating in the community. Her role as Enabling Minister at Kittamquandi Community Church certainly provides an environment to interact and guide a segment of the population in ways unique to that skill set. Heather is active on the internet as a blogger and social networker as her open mind and open heart search for ways to enable an even larger population of humans to find there way in life.

We kicked off our 2008 series of HocoLocal Lady parties straight away. Over 25 of Susan’s dearest friends and family members arrived at Great Sage, in Clarksville, for what was one of our sweetest events. Susan was pleasantly surprised at how comfortable she was in the company of people she described “would be the same people who would gather for her funeral!” This party showed us all how satisfying it is to acknowledge, celebrate and nurture the connections throughout our lives.
